## 18/5/20

I have separated it into year 1 and 2. There are 3 different activities. All children can measure independently now. So now we are going to do some mastery maths on capacity. On this they need to explain their reasoning. This can be written or recorded. There are 3 submarines on the corners I would start then on the second submarine if they can't do this independently then move down. If they can move up to the deeper submarine. These sheets also have adult questions to support your child without giving them the answers and help their thinking.

## Level 1 Level 2 Level 3

On Thursday and Friday I would like you to concentrate on counting in 2's, moving on to 2 times tables. Here are some activities to support their learning.

## 11/5/20

KLQ: How is capacity used?

We are going to start our learning by having some more water play! I would like you to get a measuring jug and a cup, glass or container. First I would like you to have a look at the lines on the side of the measuring jug. Can you estimate how much water one cup will be? What about two cups? How many cups would it take to fill your jug? What about

__half fill__your jug?**Activity 1:**

For this activity I would like you to choose any container in your house.

Now using water, toys, sand, beads etc. Can you show it full, empty and half full? Send me your pictures on your profile. You can also use this sheet if you wish. How many other containers can you find that are full, empty or half full in your cupboards?

Can you compare 2 different containers e.g. "The salad cream is less than the tomato sauce..." "The jam is almost full but the Cheerios are empty" This sheet can also support this if you wish :)

**Activity 2:**

For this lesson I would like you to do an investigation to find out if all cups hold the same amount of water. For your investigation you will need...

- A measuring jug
- 3 different sized cups or small containers
- Your orange work book
- A Pencil

Next you need to fill all 3 containers and then use your measuring jug to measure how much water fit into each container. Record your results in your orange book.

Finally review your results, was your prediction correct? What did you find out? Did anything surprise you?

**Activity 3:**

**Calling all witches and Wizards!!**For your next challenge, we are going to look at making potions!

How can you use the ingredients shown in the picture to create your very own "Invisibility potion"

**If you can think of your own ingredient feel free to add it in**

You will need to tell me how much of each ingredient to use and colour that part in. (See example below!)

Measure your ingredients carefully look at the scale on our example, it is going up in 100's or 10's remember this when you are adding your ingredients. :-)

You can also create your own potion practically using different coloured liquids.

**Activity 4:**Your final capacity activity this week is to help Wizard William and Witch Winifred mix potions. Can you help find all the possibilities for their recipes? Again there are 3 levels.
