At Rawcliffe Bridge Primary and Rawcliffe Primary Schools we recognise that, whereas every child is an individual, they each are equal in terms of opportunity. We therefore tailor the curriculum to meet the needs of individual children, providing them with their own, carefully structured, thematic learning opportunities. These cover all the requirements made upon the school in terms of the skills to be developed through the Foundation Stage and National Curriculum. They include built-in progression, the use of new and emerging technology and links between subjects are exploited to make learning as exciting and stimulating as possible! We use the local authority agreed syllabus for the statutory teaching of religious education.
In the Foundation Year all curriculum activities are planned using the curriculum guidance for the Foundation Stage. Across the school the curriculum is divided into areas of learning; literacy, maths, history/geography, science, arts/design which mostly taught using a cross-curricular 'enquiry' approach so that our curriculum is an effective vehicle for teaching English and Maths.
We pride ourselves in delivering an extremely 'responsive' curriculum. Teachers use of on-going assessment underpins how they plan for learning, and stimuli for learning are generated by the interests of the children, events from the school calendar as well as local and national events. In this way we ensure that learning is inspiring and purposeful and equips children with not only the knowledge and skills to move on with their education, but also the wherewithal to flourish into valuable citizens with good physical and mental well-being, who are able to cope with the demands of life in the 21st century.
