22/02/21 - 26/02/21
We're going to do something a bit different this week. Your job for the whole week is to write a narrative based on the video below. You can create your own "normal situation" for the start and your own peculiar fantasy world instead of the underwater scene. I've provided you with some tools to guide you, but it is up to you how you structure your week. My two suggested structures are below, but it is up to you how you complete this job, as long as you have a full narrative written by Thursday, it is up to you how you get there.
Suggestion 1
Monday - watch the video and plan your narrative.
Tuesday - write the introduction and build up.
Wednesday - write the climax/problem and resolution to your narrative.
Thursday - edit and improve your writing.
Suggestion 2
Monday - watch the video, plan, write and edit introduction.
Tuesday - plan, write and edit build up.
Wednesday - plan, write and edit climax/problem.
Thursday - plan, write and edit resolution.

The hook video - watch the video and use it to inspire your story. Your main character is going to start in an ordinary situation and magically be transported to an extraordinary situation.
Planning sheets - There are 2 planning sheets which I have uploaded, a story mountain and a boxing up sheet, you can use either or any other way you would like to plan your story.
Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 common exception words - make sure to check these for your spelling corrections.
Writing mat - choose your level, the first page is level 1, the second is level 2, the third page is level 3. This will help you with your editing as well as up-leveling your work.
Interesting word suggestions - use these to make sure your writing doesn't get boring.
An online dictionary and thesaurus - use these to check trickier spellings and find more exciting vocabulary.
Good luck and enjoy your writing. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you can produce.

Thursday - Editing work
Editing work is always tricky to do. Your first draft of a piece of writing will always have mistakes in it. When I do writing, I have to edit it, when JK Rowling wrote the Harry Potter books, she had to check and edit her work. It is an incredibly important skill.
As tomorrow is Chinese New Year, we have a text about Chinese New Year. Your job is to choose your level and make corrections and improvements to the text. There are a lot of possible improvements to make, see how much editing you can do. Remember to use your purple pen for editing.
You should look for Spellings, Grammar, Punctuation and Vocabulary improvements.

Tuesday and Thursday
Over Tuesday and Thursday this week we are going to have a grammar focus looking at relative clauses and pronouns. These activities have been broken down on the powerpoint but I have also provided additional resources which included a parent guide and a teaching video. Please contact me via dojo if you would like me to go through any of this with your child(ren). Children do not need to complete all the additional tasks - they are there for those who want extra practice.
