Home learning
- Home learning will be updated by 9:00am each Monday morning with tasks for the week. These will be differentiated so that all children, can access the learning at an appropriate level. Pupils will be assigned to a particular group and will access the work of that group.
- Teachers will be accessible via DOJO for parental queries about the work set during school hours. Please be mindful that some of our teachers are educating children in school so they may not give you an immediate reply.
- Weekly activities will include: Mathletics; Readiwriter; different foundation subject focuses each week; phonics in KS1, Maths and English (Reading and Writing activities)
- Work must be uploaded to DOJO or emailed to class teacher by 4:30 pm each Friday.
- Children will be awarded DOJO points for work completed.
An Example timetable
Please find below an example timetable for you to use at home. I will edit it each week with the activities that I have set for the children. I would like to point out that this is not prescriptive it is an example, you know your children, you know what is best for your children if you feel they need to do things a different way around then do it your way :-) In school on a real day if I can see that the children need to have a break then that is what we do. We want you to enjoy this time with your children too!
Recipe of the Week!
This weeks recipe of the week is Crumpet Pizzas! Each week I will be sharing a different recipe that you can make with your family at home! I will also make it for myself and my family! Please upload a picture of your finished product and a review of your meal!
Maths
This week in maths we are starting our work with Multiplication and division. I have organised it into groups just like you are in class. If you can't remember what group you are in it is written on the front of your maths book in your home learning pack.
Science- What is the difference between a Herbivore, Carnivore and Ominvore?
In this lesson we are going to be recapping our learning of Herbivores, carnivores and ominvores after you all showed so much interest in it in last weeks session!
Watch the video below and remind yourself about what herbivores, carnivores and omnivores eat.
Activity 1- Can you write 3 statements that explain what each one is giving examples of what they eat.
e.g. A herbivore is and animal that only eats ______ and example of a herbivore would be a ________ I was surprised that a ______ is a herbivore because_______.
e.g. A herbivore is and animal that only eats ______ and example of a herbivore would be a ________ I was surprised that a ______ is a herbivore because_______.
Activity 2- For your next science activity you will need to draw two circles on a piece of paper that overlap each other as shown in the diagram. I would then like you to use your own knowledge or research on the internet to find out which category to put these animals into.
|
Activity 3- Often, teeth can be a giveaway as to what category an animal fits. This isn't always the case, but herbivores more typically have flatter teeth for grinding up vegetation, while carnivores will have sharp teeth for tearing up meat. Many omnivores will have some combination of the two, allowing for easier eating and digestion of their food sources.
Have a look at the animal teeth below and decide if you think that animal is a herbivore, carnivore or an omnivore. You can write the animal letter in your book and then what you think it is followed by a reason why.
e.g. Z. I think this animal is a Herbivore because it has flat teeth so it can eat the grass.

English- Jim and the Beanstalk
Activity 1- In our live lesson today we have been learning about Speech, If we only ever used said in our writing our writing would get very boring! Have a look at the Said synonyms below! Different ways to say 'said' help us to understand the way a person is speaking and the way the author wants us to read those words. Can you practise saying some different words in these ways.
For your activity today I would like you to write a conversation between Jim and the Giant, You need to remember our direct speech golden rules....
1. Speech marks go around what the person is saying
2. Punctuation goes inside the speech marks
3. New speaker, New line!
1. Speech marks go around what the person is saying
2. Punctuation goes inside the speech marks
3. New speaker, New line!
You will get extra bonus dojos if you can include some adverbs in your writing....
Example,
Jim cautiously walked towards the huge giant,
"Who are you?" shouted the Giant
"My name is Jim" said Jim quietly
"Did Jack send you?" Bellowed the Giant
"No, I saw a huge plant and decided to climb it," replied Jim.
Below I have added a support sheet for those of you that feel stuck with what to write about. You will need to pair the sentences together and then write them into your project books.

Lesson 2- How do Fronted Adverbials help improve a piece of writing?
These phrases all come at the beginning of a sentence, we know this because they have a capital letter to start each phrase. These phrases are called fronted adverbials. Have a watch of the BBC bitesize clip to learn a little bit more about Fronted Adverbials.
For today's lesson I would like you to have a practise at using Fronted Adverbials. Using the sentences below I would like you to add the fronted adverbial. Use a different coloured pen or pencil to write the fronted Adverbial. I have done the first one for you, You do not need to print this off use it as handwriting practise too and write the sentences out in your blue project book.
Lesson 3- Why is it important to form a story plan?
Today we are going to plan a story of our own to write based on the story of Jim and the beanstalk but with some changes of your choosing. We are only going to have two problems in our story. Have a look at the example below of how I have planned my own story based around Jim and the Beanstalk. REMEMBER I haven't written the story I have planned the story! We will write the story Tomorrow! It is important for us to plan the story first so that we have the ideas to help guide our writing we can then bulk up our story by adding our fronted adverbials, Speech and expanded noun phrases.
Now you've had a look at mine it's time to plan your own. I have attached a template for you to use if you wish (it may be slightly more helpful if you have the facility to print) but if you are unable to print it then you can just write into your blue project book.

Lesson 4- Time to write a story!
For this lesson using your planning sheet I would like you to write your story. You will need to consider the following things to make your story AMAZING!
Speech
Fronted Adverbials
Handwriting
Paragraphs, Capital Letters, Punctuation and Adjectives (Expanded noun phrases!)
I would not expect you to have this written in one lesson because I would like you to take your time with it and really focus on writing a good story. Remember to practise your sentence before you write it, be it in your head, on paper or saying it out loud.
Writing our story is going to go into next week with finishing the story, editing and improving and then writing a final copy on fancy paper. So please don't rush!
Speech
- Use speech marks around the dialogue
- New Speaker, New line
- Try to use words other than 'said' (Although a few are fine!)
- Punctuation inside the speech marks
Fronted Adverbials
- Open your sentences with interesting story starters
- Remember a comma after your adverbial
Handwriting
- Make sure you are presenting your work neatly.

Phonics play have very kindly opened up their website for parents and children to access for free without the need to subscribe. This can be accessed at https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/ Username: Jan21 Password: home
I won't be planning specific phonics lessons as we are all moved on from formal phonics teaching however there are plenty of games to play on there to keep them refreshed in your heads. We have now moved onto practising using our phonics skills for reading and writing by practising our spellings on readiwriter.

Let's warm up!
This week I would like you to have a go at creating a short piece of dance to show me how you think each animal will move a slide to help you and a song can be found below. Improvise with the movements you create and we are going to develop these next week.
It is important you still keep on with PE throughout the week on top or spending some time outside just like for playtime. We recommend an hour outside just like at school. (15 minutes in the morning, half an hour at lunch time and 15 minutes in the afternoon.)
Joe Wicks is putting on PE sessions on his YouTube page live at 9am every other day so why not give that a go!
