Home learning
- Home learning will be updated by 9:00am each Monday morning with tasks for the week. These will be differentiated so that all children, can access the learning at an appropriate level. Pupils will be assigned to a particular group and will access the work of that group.
- Teachers will be accessible via DOJO for parental queries about the work set during school hours. Please be mindful that some of our teachers are educating children in school so they may not give you an immediate reply.
- Weekly activities will include: Mathletics; Readiwriter; different foundation subject focuses each week; phonics in KS1, Maths and English (Reading and Writing activities)
- Work must be uploaded to DOJO or emailed to class teacher by 4:30 pm each Friday.
- Children will be awarded DOJO points for work completed.
An Example timetable
Please find below an example timetable for you to use at home. I will edit it each week with the activities that I have set for the children. I would like to point out that this is not prescriptive it is an example, you know your children, you know what is best for your children if you feel they need to do things a different way around then do it your way :-) In school on a real day if I can see that the children need to have a break then that is what we do. We want you to enjoy this time with your children too!

Maths
This week in maths we are starting our work with Multiplication and division. I have organised it into groups just like you are in class. If you can't remember what group you are in it is written on the front of your maths book in your home learning pack.
Science KLQ-Why is Nutrition Important to all Animals?
In this lesson we are going to be learning about nutrition in food. I am hoping to teach you about this using TEAMs and then leave you to complete the activities independently.
I will update activities after the lesson with the powerpoint for those that couldn't attend virtually.
Activity 1- Can you match the nutrients to the benefits to the human body? You don’t need to print this off you can write them into your project book.
e.g. Protein- Helps your body to grow and repair.
e.g. Protein- Helps your body to grow and repair.
Activity 2- Can you create a picture of a delicious meal that has all the elements of the “Eatwell plate” on it. You need to label each element. Using a plain A4 piece of paper cut in half you can draw your plate onto it and then stick it into your project book underneath activity 1.
English- Jim and the Beanstalk
Activity 1- Read Jack and the beanstalk before Tuesday afternoon. You might have a copy of your own or you might want to use the powerpoint I have attached.
For the next two weeks we are going to be focusing our activities all around the story "Jim and the beanstalk" Below is a copy of the front cover of the book. I would like you to have a look at the front cover and then write in your project books what you think the story will be about using the questions as prompts. |

|
Activity 2- Thinking about the story book that we have just read can you answer the questions in your books. Remember to present your work beautifully and leave a line between each question. When answering these questions, you must write in full sentences E.g. What is Mrs Dean’s cat called? Please don’t just write 1. Tigger What is Mrs Dean’s cat called? 1. Mrs Dean’s cat is called Tigger. Remember use some of the question to help write your answer. |
Activity 3- Today I would like you to use your own words to retell the story of Jim and the Beanstalk. You can watch the story being told again in the YouTube link above.
Now this is important I want you to retell it in your own words not just copy it out. To retell the story you need to summarise the important events and details– those which must be explained for the story to make sense. This will include some information about the characters in order that their actions can be understood – e.g. we would explain their emotions. It would not however include speech as we can just explain the outcome of the conversations e.g. ‘The giant asked Jim to use a gold coin to purchase glasses for him.’ Now using the support resource below have a go at retelling the story.
To help you complete your work have a go at putting these events in order first this will help you to sequence your writing.

KLQ: Who are the Ancient Egyptians?
This week I would like you to use the internet to find out 10 facts about the Ancient Egyptians! You can choose to present this however you want, you might want to create a video, poster, fact file or practise your handwriting to create a list.
Below I have added a list of useful websites and resources however you might also want to have a look for your own. When using the internet remember to always be safe and if you're not sure about something get an adult!

Extra Reading

I have uploaded a 60 second read for your child to read and complete the comprehension questions, you don't need to print this out you can read it on your computer screen and then just use their blue books to write the answers just number them 1-4 to save time. :-)
As the children can no longer access the school library to choose a book to read for pleasure I would like to see them reading different reading books at home and uploading a book review onto their dojo account :-) The children will be awarded a DOJO point for each review they put on. Remember you don't always have to like the story you chose to read but you do need to explain why you didn't like it.

Phonics
Phonics play have very kindly opened up their website for parents and children to access for free without the need to subscribe. This can be accessed at https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/ Username: Jan21 Password: home
I won't be planning specific phonics lessons as we are all moved on from formal phonics teaching however there are plenty of games to play on there to keep them refreshed in your heads. We have now moved onto practising using our phonics skills for reading and writing by practising our spellings on readiwriter.

Physical Education
It is important you still keep on with PE throughout the week on top or spending some time outside just like for playtime. We recommend an hour outside just like at school. (15 minutes in the morning, half an hour at lunch time and 15 minutes in the afternoon.)
Joe Wicks is putting on PE sessions on his YouTube page live at 9am every other day so why not give that a go!
